Responsibilities:
- Be the Technical Expert on all matters relating to the engineering, design, selection, specification and performance of rotating equipment.
- Review the Rotating Equipment engineering aspects for technical integrity against company and industry standards.
- Ensure high reliability is realized through careful system design and equipment selection.
- Ensure optimal design and engineering practices to develop fit-for-purpose installations that meet the stringent integrity standards required of ourselves, whilst minimizing total cost-of-ownership over the life cycle.
- Ideally the candidate will have the appropriate experience to perform the Technical Authority role for the respective projects although candidates showing the potential to quickly develop the required Technical Authority competency will also be considered.
- Provide technical assurance of Rotating Equipment related designs through appropriate application of Shell technical standards and specifications, implementation of DCAF and review of critical EPC design deliverables and activities.
- Verify the design integrity of work carried out by engineering contractors to ensure that the proposed solutions are technically sound and meet reliability, operability and maintainability requirements
- Provide support during the fabrication, testing, installation and commissioning of rotating equipment, and conduct shop and field acceptance testing
- Participate in the development of the pre-commissioning, commissioning and start-up plans for rotating equipment
- Be a functional member of the rotating equipment discipline and as such promote and apply global strategies
- Work with a diverse range of suppliers and internal departments, and maintain contacts with vendors and operating units to optimise the design of equipment through the application of best practices
Requirements:
- B Sc. in mechanical engineering discipline or equivalent.
- P Eng or Eligible for registration with APEGA
- 10 to 15 years experience including design, operation and installation.
- Relevant and demonstrable in-depth knowledge of and experience with mechanical (rotating equipment) design, operation, maintenance and condition monitoring in the petrochemical, mining, or oil and gas industry.
- Conversant with rotating equipment engineering standards.
- Conversant with related documentation and documentation requirements.
- High degree of personal independence and good verbal/ written communication skills are essential. Detailed knowledge of relevant Shell standards and industry standards within their discipline and quickly be capable of finding, understanding and applying the relevant discipline standards.
