Responsibilities:
- Responsible to supply visible leadership in the Utilities Production area of the facility. The primary responsibility of this role is the safe and efficient operation of the Utilities Plant Process Equipment while maintaining compliance with all pertinent Acts/Codes and recommendations from the Alberta Boiler Safety Association (ABSA). Support all work groups when complex issues or asset integrity is being compromised. Act as a lead resource during troubleshooting periods and liaison with ABSA on Boiler and Pressure Equipment Concerns and Activities.
- Providing support within the operations group in the areas of costs, safety, revenue generation, and organizational effectiveness by managing the plant operation and securing resources to effectively manage the business.
- Knowledgeable of the technical and business process in Utilities Production area with a working knowledge of the entire production complex.
- Assist in the coordination of work activities between operations and maintenance while ensuring minimal production.
- Support the Maintenance and Reliability Teams with Equipment Inspection/Integrity coordination and planning – zero unapproved missed inspection.
- Develop an understanding of the Pressure Equipment Integrity Management (PEIM) Process.
- Ensure operational and maintenance job plans follow the SAP process including long term planning, backlog management and weekly/daily coordination activities.
- Responsible for minimizing operating costs in the utilities area. Also responsible for managing assigned contracts with associated vendors.
- Coordinate and support project planning, execution, commissioning and start-up of new equipment or processes. Ensure coordination with ABSA as required.
- Act as Chief Power Engineer for the facility and liaison with ABSA on roles and duties as outlined by the Act and Regulations for the province of Alberta.
- Support and develop personnel in career advancement throughout utilities and the organization.
- Ensure there are no unplanned events that impact steam production or operating capacity.
- Notify management of plant unsafe conditions and measures taken to mitigate these issues.
- Owner of the Ensure Safe Production (ESP) Variable Table
- Owner of the Operational Register Data Bases
- Validate Proactive Monitoring strategy and console rounds
- Owner of the Proactive Monitoring Review Meetings
- Audit the Disabled/Inhibited Alarm summary logs and Safety Impairments Daily
Requirements:
- Must have legal requirement to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than their current employer.
- 1st Class Power Engineering Certificate.
- 10+ years of relevant work experience as a 1st Class Power Engineer
- Proven technical knowledge of Utility Operations and all associated equipment.
- Proven Interpersonal and leadership skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- PC skills with advanced knowledge of MS Excel.
- Proven problem solving and trouble shooting skills.
- Knowledge of Alberta Boiler Safety Codes, OH&S Code, and ERCB regulations.
- Willingness to work in a setting that cultivates a cohesive team approach to plant operations and maintenance.
